The business has a particular focus on providing a best-in-class product for HBV, who are one of the largest developers in the UK in this sector. 


About the role

We are looking for a quantity surveyor to join our team based at our head office in Knutsford. 

The successful candidate must have a main contractor background, ideally with a minimum experience of 3 years. You will work closely with and report to the Commercial Manager and Construction Director, assisting with and handling pre and post-contract duties.

Along with the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing the costs across multiple projects in the UK, with a particular focus on minimising cost and maximising value, without compromising our high quality and standards. 

This will also include working closely with our Commercial Manager and Procurement Manager for successful subcontract management; including procurement, negotiating and placing sub-contracts, contract administration, compiling and reviewing monthly valuations including producing recommendations for payment, assisting with the compilation of the Main Contractors monthly application, and negotiating and agreeing sub-contractor final account agreements.


Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate should expect to:

  • Attend / chair sub-contractor pre-start and subcontract package review meetings.
  • Upon receipt of Design drawings, you will assist in checking all contract drawings to identify errors, omissions, anomalies and areas of risk.
  • Compile and issue tender enquiries, analyse returns and prepare tender recommendations in line with the procurement program / project requirements.
  • Carry out preliminary checks on subcontractors including financial checks and sending and reviewing pre-qualification questionnaires.
  • Undertake cost analysis of quotations resulting from the tender enquiry, requesting additional and outstanding information as required.
  • Contribute to budget settlement meetings, with the support of the wider Commercial team.
  • Following the tender process, and with the approval of the Commercial Manager, prepare all contract documentation and place the sub-contract / order.
  • With agreement from the Commercial Manager and/or Construction Director, Issue variation orders and development changes alongside assisting on major variations prior to issue. 
  • Check, collate and reconcile all costs resulting from subcontract works, variation orders, site instructions and material orders and assist the Commercial Manager with the overall project cashflows. 
  • Check and recommend sub-contractor payments
  • Take responsibility for/assist with the preparation of documents for the basis of external valuation with the clients' agent.
  • Attend site progress meetings, project team meetings, subcontractor meetings and surveying meetings as required.
  • Regularly visit live and future sites with a view to building and maintaining relationships with the project site team, sub-contractors and suppliers in the interest of creating a collaborative working environment.
  • Assist the Finance Director with invoice reconciliation and supplier/sub-contractor payment queries.

Requirements

Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience as a Main Contractor quantity surveyor or assistant quantity surveyor

Qualifications: Minimum of HNC in Surveying or Construction or equivalent

Technical skills: Strong IT skills and experience with procurement and tracking documents. Prior knowledge / experience using document management systems such as SharePoint preferred.

Good understanding of budget management

Relationship Building: Skilled at building positive relationships with internal teams and suppliers alike.

Full driving Licence and own vehicle: You will be required to travel to and between development sites as required.


Remuneration

£35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience + mileage and working away expenses covered.

Pension

28 days holiday per annum (including mandatory 3 days over the Christmas period)
